WHAT TIME IS THE NEXT BUS?

It may seem fairly unimportant in the present chaotic political climate, but the East Riding of Yorkshire Council has once again made something very simple into quite a complicated business, for no apparent reason. We are talking about the bus time tables on display at bus stops. Until very recently these were quite simple. The time table would start at the time of the first bus in the morning and would list in chronological order the next buses through to the last one at night. i.e.
8.27 .......... 240
8.28........... 550
8.45...........129
This meant that one could check the time and then look down the list to see when the next suitable bus would arrive. Easy! Much too easy for the air head who has come up with this new system. Now there is a separate box for each service, each one having to be checked in turn to find the next bus which will suit your journey. Last week, two policemen who were passing the bus stop were asked if they knew the time of the next bus to the depot; they looked at the time table and it then took them a considerable time to work this out. Many bus passengers have now spoken to us about this matter and are all in agreement that this new system is dreadful - especially for older people and for those with poor eyesight.
Why on earth this change was made is beyond our understanding; the bus companies do not seem to know why it has been changed and there was certainly no public consultation.
Clearly those in the relevant department in County Hall are unaware of the old maxim,
if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Eyespy says: If you are not happy with this unnecessary and expensive action, complain to your local E.R.Y.C. councillor.
